Does this sound like you?

Pain shows up in different ways at different times of life. Check the ones that fit.

  • Your back wakes you up at night, and you cannot get comfortable again.
  • Your knee stops you on the stairs, at home or at work.
  • Your neck aches by the end of the workday or after a long drive.
  • You skip your run, your game or your workout because something hurts.
  • You cannot pick up your kids, or play on the floor with your grandkids.
  • Your shoulder hurts when you reach for a shelf or a seatbelt.
  • Your feet burn, tingle or ache after a short walk.
  • You have tried rest, pills and stretches, and the pain keeps coming back.

If you checked even one, you do not have to just live with it.

Call (971) 202-1979 Tell us where it hurts. We will tell you honestly if we can help.

The Pain We Treat

Each kind of pain below gets a hands-on plan built around your body, your work and your goals. Pick yours to see how we help.

Joints and Muscles

Back Pain Treatment in Salem Without Pills or Surgery

Back pain can hit a parent lifting a toddler, a nurse at the end of a long shift, or a grandparent after an afternoon in the garden. It often flares when you sit too long, bend over, or get out of bed.

Most back pain comes from strained muscles, stiff joints or an irritated disc. Long days in one position and weak support muscles can keep it coming back.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to ease tight muscles and loosen stiff joints in your back
  • A movement plan you can do at home, built around your work and your day
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic back pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it low back pain, a bad back or a back that keeps going out, the first step is the same: find out what is driving it.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your back pain.

Neck Pain Treatment in Salem That Gets You Turning Again

Neck pain can be a stiff neck after a night on the wrong pillow, a dull ache after hours at a laptop, or trouble turning your head to check a blind spot. Some people also feel it as headaches or tight shoulders.

Common causes include holding one posture too long, strained muscles, and stiff or worn joints in the neck. Stress and poor sleep can make it all feel worse.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to loosen stiff joints and tight muscles in your neck and upper back
  • Simple neck and shoulder exercises that fit into a workday
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic neck pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

If you have been searching for help with a stiff neck, neck and shoulder pain, or neck pain from computer work, you are in the right place.

Knee Pain Treatment in Salem for Stairs, Squats and Running

Knee pain can stop a runner mid-training, make a parent wince when they kneel down to play with the kids, or turn the stairs into a project. It may ache at the front of the knee, click, swell, or feel like it could give way.

Common causes include overuse, weak hip and thigh muscles, a past injury, and arthritis. Often the knee is reacting to how the whole leg moves.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to calm the joint and loosen stiff tissue around it
  • Strength work for your hip and thigh, so your knee carries less strain
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic knee pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you know it as runner's knee, a bad knee or knee pain on the stairs, we start by finding out why it hurts.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your knee pain.

Shoulder Pain Treatment in Salem When Reaching Hurts

Shoulder pain can make it hard to reach a high shelf, fasten a seatbelt, throw a ball or sleep on that side. Some people feel a sharp catch when they lift the arm. Others feel a deep ache down the upper arm.

Common causes include irritated rotator cuff tendons, a stiff joint capsule, and wear in the joint. Pain from the neck can also show up in the shoulder.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to bring back movement in a stiff shoulder
  • A step-by-step plan to rebuild your strength and your reach
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic shoulder pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it a rotator cuff problem, a frozen shoulder or shoulder pain at night, we test how your shoulder moves before we treat it.

Hip Pain Treatment That Gets You Walking Comfortably

Hip pain can show up in the groin, on the outside of the hip, or deep in the buttock. It may hurt when you walk, climb stairs, get out of a car or lie on that side at night.

Common causes include sore tendons on the outside of the hip, arthritis in the joint, and pain that travels down from the lower back. Where it hurts gives useful clues about what is going on.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to ease stiffness and improve how your hip moves
  • Strength work for the muscles that steady your hip and pelvis
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic hip pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you search for hip bursitis, pain on the outside of the hip or groin pain when walking, we start by finding the true source.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your hip pain.

Foot and Heel Pain Treatment for Every Step

Foot pain can make your first steps out of bed feel sharp, slow down a walk, or end a run early. It may sit in the heel, the arch, the ball of the foot or the big toe.

Common causes include plantar fasciitis, tight calves, worn or poorly fitting shoes, and arthritis in the small joints of the foot. Long days on hard floors can add to it.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy for tight calves, stiff ankles and sore tissue in your foot
  • Stretches and strength work for your feet and lower legs, plus practical shoe advice
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic foot pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it plantar fasciitis, heel pain in the morning or a sore arch, we look at how your whole foot and leg move.

Arthritis Pain Treatment to Keep Your Joints Moving

Arthritis can mean stiff hands in the morning, a sore knee after a long walk, or a hip that complains on the stairs. It can follow an old sports injury or years of hard work, and it affects people at many stages of life.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type. Joints get stiff and sore, and the muscles around them often get weaker, which makes the joint work even harder.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to ease stiffness and improve how your joints move
  • Joint-friendly strength and movement work you can keep doing at home
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic arthritis pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you search for osteoarthritis treatment, joint pain relief or help for stiff, sore joints, movement is the heart of the plan.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your arthritis pain.

Nerves, Injury and Recovery

Pinched Nerve Treatment for Arm and Leg Pain

A pinched nerve can feel like a hot, shooting pain down an arm or a leg, with tingling or numbness along the way. It may get worse when you sit, look down or turn your head.

It usually happens when something near the spine, such as a bulging disc or a narrowed space, presses on a nerve root. Leg or arm weakness that gets worse, or loss of bladder or bowel control, needs urgent medical care first.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy and positions that take pressure off the nerve
  • Gentle nerve and spine movements, then strength work as you improve
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic nerve-related pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it sciatica, a pinched nerve in your neck or shooting leg pain, we test which nerve is involved and why.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your pinched nerve.

Herniated Disc Treatment With Hands-On Care and Movement

A herniated disc can cause back or neck pain, plus pain, tingling or numbness that runs into a leg or an arm. Sitting, bending or coughing can make it flare.

A disc is a cushion between the bones of your spine. When part of it pushes out, it can press on a nearby nerve. Leg or arm weakness that gets worse, or loss of bladder or bowel control, needs urgent medical care first.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy and positions that ease pressure and calm the pain
  • A step-by-step movement and strength plan for your back or neck
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for chronic disc pain. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it a slipped disc, a bulging disc or a disc problem on your MRI, we treat you and how you move, not just the scan.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your herniated disc.

Peripheral Neuropathy Therapy for Tingling and Numb Feet

Peripheral neuropathy can feel like tingling, burning or numbness in your feet or hands. It can make walking feel uncertain and turn a good night's sleep into a restless one.

Diabetes is the most common cause, but there are many others. Your doctor looks after the cause. Physical therapy works on the strength, balance and comfort that neuropathy can take away.

How we help
  • Hands-on care and exercises for feeling, strength and balance in your feet
  • A walking and balance plan to help you feel steadier on your feet
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan. In one 2025 study of people with diabetic nerve pain, people treated with the Neubie reported less pain. It was one study, and results vary.

Whether you search for neuropathy treatment, numb feet or diabetic nerve pain, the first step is a careful evaluation.

Call (971) 202-1979 to talk about your neuropathy.

Whiplash Treatment After a Car Crash

Whiplash can leave your neck stiff and sore after a car crash, a fall or a hard hit in sports. Some people also get headaches, shoulder pain or trouble turning their head.

It happens when the head snaps quickly forward and back, which strains the muscles and soft tissue of the neck. We start therapy once a doctor has ruled out a serious injury.

How we help
  • Gentle hands-on therapy to ease neck pain and stiffness
  • A graded plan to get your neck turning and your normal day back
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for pain after an injury. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you call it whiplash, a neck injury from a car accident or neck strain, we build your plan around how your neck moves today.

Pain and Stiffness Rehab After Surgery

After a knee or hip replacement, a shoulder repair or back surgery, pain and stiffness can make the first weeks hard. Everyday tasks like stairs, dressing and getting into a car can feel like big jobs.

Some pain is a normal part of healing, and joints and muscles get stiff when they rest. We start once your surgeon clears you for therapy, and we follow their instructions.

How we help
  • Hands-on therapy to restore movement safely as you heal
  • A step-by-step strength and movement plan matched to your surgeon's guidance
  • The Neubie may be part of your plan for pain after surgery. Dr. Raj checks if it fits.

Whether you search for rehab after knee replacement, physical therapy after surgery or post-op pain relief, we plan each step with your recovery in mind.

FDA-cleared device

What is the Neubie?

The Neubie is an FDA-cleared device that Dr. Raj uses at HWY in Salem. FDA-cleared means the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared it for specific uses. Two of those uses are the relief of chronic pain (pain that lasts for months) and the management of pain after surgery or an injury.

The Neubie uses direct current. That means the electrical signal flows in one direction.

It is not a TENS unit. A TENS unit is the small buzzing pad device many people have tried. It uses current that switches direction many times a second. TENS mostly covers up pain for a while. The Neubie is built to help your nerves and muscles work together better, which therapists call neuromuscular re-education.

The Neubie is one tool inside a physical therapy plan. It is never the whole treatment. Dr. Raj uses it together with hands-on therapy and the right exercises for your body. You keep the exercises when you leave.

Here is the honest part. The Neubie may help with pain, but it is not a cure. It does not work for every pain, and results vary from person to person. In one 2025 study of 150 people with diabetic nerve pain, people treated with the Neubie reported less pain, while the TENS group did not show a clear change. That was one study on one kind of nerve pain. It does not prove the Neubie helps every kind of pain.

Dr. Raj will tell you plainly if the Neubie fits your case. If it does not, he will say so and build your plan without it.

Ask if the Neubie is a good fit for your pain. Call (971) 202-1979

Who the Neubie is not for

The Neubie is not for everyone. Do not use it if:

  • You have a cardiac pacemaker.
  • You are pregnant.

If you have any implanted device, or a health condition you are unsure about, tell us when you call. Dr. Raj checks this at your evaluation, before any treatment starts.

How a visit works

  1. Call us.

Tell our team what hurts and how long it has hurt. We answer your questions and book a time that suits you.

  2. Your evaluation.

Dr. Raj asks about your pain, your work and your life. He tests how you move and finds what is driving the pain.

  3. Your plan.

You get hands-on care, exercises that fit your body and, where it fits, the Neubie. You will know the plan before you start.

  4. Progress checks.

We measure how you are doing as you go. If the plan is not working, we change it.

What our patients say

Watch Dr. Raj and Michael, a real HWY patient, talk about his progress after nine Neubie visits for nerve pain in his feet. In his own words, his pain now comes much less often, feeling has returned to the middle of his foot, and he feels steadier. One patient's experience. Results vary.

"I was skeptical at first, but after my first virtual consultation with Dr. Raj, I felt hopeful again. Two months later, I'm back to gardening without pain!"

Patricia T, 65

"I didn't think virtual visits could be so effective, but I saw real progress in just a month. My back hasn't felt this good in years!"

Michael P, 66

"Physical therapist, Raj identified the issues related to my hip pain. Raj developed a plan of strategic exercises to alleviate the problem. He was patient and fun to work with."

Frequently asked questions

Is the Neubie painful?

You will feel it working. Dr. Raj sets the strength to a level you can handle and changes it if you ask. Tell him any time it feels like too much.

Is the Neubie the same as a TENS unit?

No. A TENS unit uses current that switches direction many times a second, and it mostly covers up pain for a while. The Neubie uses direct current that flows one way. It is built to help your nerves and muscles work together better.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your pain, how long you have had it, and your goals. After your evaluation, Dr. Raj gives you an estimate in visits and weeks, plus a date to check if the plan is working. For one example, Michael in our video had nine Neubie visits. Your number may be smaller or larger.

Do I need insurance?

No. HWY is a direct-pay clinic. No insurance needed, no claims and no surprise bills.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. Oregon law lets you see a physical therapist directly, without a referral. If Dr. Raj finds something that needs a doctor, he will tell you and help you get there.

Is it safe at my age?

Age is not on the list of reasons to avoid the Neubie. Your health is what matters. It is not for people with a cardiac pacemaker or who are pregnant. Dr. Raj checks your health history before any treatment.

What does it cost?

An initial evaluation is $200. A 30-minute follow-up is $100 if you are under 65, or $75 if you are 65 and over. A 60-minute follow-up is $200 if you are under 65, or $150 if you are 65 and over.
